MOCT is an international mathematical contest that is meant to promote problem solving and computational thinking among pupils at young age of 7 to 14. The contest is administered globally for pupils interested in mathematical exposure beyond school curriculum.
The competition consists of one round only, with four levels. Test paper of each level consists of 21 multiple choice questions with an array of topics and areas of mathematics which come in three blocks of seven with increasing difficulty. The time allowed for each exam sitting is 70 minutes.
(applicable to Vietnamese students only)
The competition is divided into four levels.
Problems in use in every level are the hearts of the competition. We appreciate the submission of problems proposals from seasoned teachers of mathematics who understand the nuts and bolts of crafting problems. Remarkable effort is put into the content annually for the best possible presentation of test items.
Each exam paper consists of the set of short problems rather exercises, supposedly fun and engaging to pupils at different ages. The problems can be solved without prior knowledge but instead require logical thinking and computational capability.
Scoring rules for the competition are as follows:
Being a contestant in the MOCT is a rewarding experience
MOCT is a paper based contest conducted under examination hall conditions. Each member is responsible for disseminating and administering of the competition in its own country.
All contestants must take the exam under the exam condition with invigilators inside the examination hall.

Mathematicians in Vietnam and overseas came up with the idea to have a competition for as many pupils from Vietnam so that there is more connections in mathematics education to the world. This follows from the emergence of Maths Kangaroo in the west and the falling decline of math culture in Vietnam.
The competition has the goals of disseminating mathematics to pupils from a wide arrange of backgrounds, improving the public perception of mathematics as a whole.
